Alan Westerlund is a Partner at Luzuriaga Mims, LLP, with a practice focusing on state and federal workers’ compensation claims arising under the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Act and the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2008 and United States District Court for the District of South Carolina in 2010. He has argued before the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission, South Carolina Circuit Courts, and South Carolina Court of Appeals. He is a Certified South Carolina Civil Court Mediator, allowing him to assist parties in the resolution of workers' compensation claims.

 

Alan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, cum laude, from Clemson University in 2003 and was inducted into the Omicron Delta Epsilon economics honor society. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Charleston School of Law in 2008, where he was on the Federal Courts Law Review and served on the Business Law Society.

 

Alan is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Charleston County Bar Association, Maritime Association of South Carolina, and South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association. He has spoken at various conferences and client educational events. He is rated as an AV Preeminent lawyer by Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell. He has been named by U.S. News Best Lawyers® for Workers’ Compensation Law.

 

Alan and his wife, Anna, live in Charleston and have two daughters, Taylor and Sela. He is the President of Kids’ Chance of South Carolina, which provides scholarships to children of injured workers. He is a co-founder of the Young Ambassador Council of The First Tee of Greater Charleston. Outside of the office, Alan enjoys supporting the Clemson Tigers, playing golf, and spending time with his family.
