Kevin Mims, the chair of our civil litigation practice group, is also a founding partner and the managing partner of Luzuriaga Mims, LLP. A cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina in 1998, and a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2001, Kevin co-founded our firm in 2011, after almost a decade in private practice in Charleston, South Carolina. Luzuriaga Mims, LLP has been recognized nationally as a “Best Law Firm” by US News and World Report annually since 2013.
Licensed to practice in the State of South Carolina since 2001, Kevin, a certified mediator by the South Carolina Supreme Court and an experienced civil litigator, focuses on complex commercial and construction litigation, along with personal injury, HOA liability, premises liability, products liability, mechanics’ liens, condemnation actions, insurance coverage, and general civil litigation matters. He has been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell with an AV preeminent peer review rating since 2013 and by Super Lawyers since 2019.
Kevin’s participation and memberships include the Claims Litigation and Management Alliance (CLM), the Defense Research Institute, the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association, the Charleston County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Bar Association (including its Tort & Insurance and Construction Law practice sections), and the American Bar Association.
Kevin has previously served on the Insurance Coverage Committee of the CLM and as the Ninth Circuit Representative of the Young Lawyers’ Division of the South Carolina Bar Association. Kevin was a featured speaker at the 64th Annual Convention of the South Carolina Association for Justice on the topic of “Complex Litigation and ADR: A Panel Discussion.” He also presented “Reptilian Tactics in Construction Claims” as part of a panel discussion at the 2021 CLM Construction Conference in San Diego, California.
Kevin has handled significant civil litigation matters, for a diverse range of clients, and he works closely with his clients to accommodate their needs and objectives to develop the most effective and efficient legal strategies to resolve a case. In addition to managing the firm and handling a busy caseload, Kevin believes that mentorship plays a vital role in the development of new attorneys and is always available to provide support and insight to any attorney seeking guidance.
