LUKE RANKIN, JR.
LITIGATION
Luke is an associate on our litigation team. Born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he is a true lover of the state, it’s coast and the lowcountry. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina, where he served as Student Body President and as the Student Representative on the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees. In addition to being inducted into the University of South Carolina Hall of Leaders, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, as well as the Omicron Delta Kappa Society, awarded the President’s award, the Outstanding Senior Award, the Thomas Moore Craig Memorial Leadership Award, and he received a special Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding contributions and service to the University of South Carolina by its Board of Trustees.
After graduating, Luke worked in the University of South Carolina President’s Office, where he built and ran a statewide mentorship program called Gamecock Connections that connected undergraduate students with high school students from underserved communities across the state in order to provide tutoring on key curriculum areas and inspire the high school students to attend college.
Luke then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as the American Bar Association Law School Student Representative, was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society, a student member of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court, an active member of the Student Bar Association serving in multiple positions and a Peer Mentor. While in law school, Luke was also an active member of the Mock Trial Bar, where he won the Judge J. Lyles Glenn Mock Trial Competition, was awarded Best Opening in the Judge J. Lyles Glenn Mock Trial Competition, placed second, as a finalist, in the William Daniel Mock Trial Competition, won the D. Reece Williams III Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, and placed in the South Texas Mock Trial Competition as a Quarterfinalist. Luke also received the Legal Research Analysis and Writing, (“LRAW”,) Oral Advocacy Award for Best Oral Advocate.
After receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Luke went on to clerk for the Honorable William H. Seals, Jr. who served as the At-Large Chief Administrative Judge over Common Pleas for the 15th Circuit, and then six months into Luke’s clerkship as the At-Large Chief Administrative Judge over General Sessions for the 12th Circuit.
When Luke is not working, he enjoys pickle ball, travel, being out on the water, and is an active participant in the community.
